Philip has unrivalled experience of aviation product liability litigation and arbitration. This focuses on the potential liability arising from any condition in aviation products from entire aircraft including design and manufacture, component parts, engines, airframes, carbon fibre reinforced plastics, air navigation equipment and airport ground handling equipment and systems. This includes the liability of manufacturers, designers, MRO’s, owners and operators and of airworthiness authorities. For example, in 2022 -2023 Philip was the lead counsel for Qatar Airways instructed for the Claimant by Pinsent Masons LLP in the $2bn product liability claim against Airbus concerning the design and manufacture of the Airbus A350 that was included by The Lawyer in the Top 20 Cases of 2023.
Current cases include acting for the family of Thai billionaire Kuhn Vichai as lead counsel in a product liability claim against the manufacturers of the Agusta 169 that tragically crashed shortly after take-off from Leicester City football ground in 2018, killing all onboard.
