I've already noted that back in the day gold creatures didn't have to be good deals in order to inspire awe
Even today, I have to assume it's a tremendously popular card, as it keeps showing up in sets, Commander included, and has about nine different printings, including a Secret Lair option
You can also do some weird stuff with this, like name Illusion and play Lord of the Unreal in a blue deck, or have Spirit tokens be your main crew creatures, name Spirit with the Engine, and play Drogskol Captain
If you wanted to own your own piece of Magic (or Wyvern ) weirdness, be ready to pony up
The more value/dual lands you play, the higher the average power of your cards, and there isn't enough non-basic hate to punish you often enough to stop playing them
Its probably best in Morph decks, but still fun here
